I can't afford a Surron, but this G300 Pro really makes me not want to return it!

I'm just shy of 40 years old and live on the edge of a quiet town not far from the city. I'm not exactly an enthusiast, but I've always been interested in electric dirt bikes, especially the Surron, and when I'm scrolling through YouTube, I'm always watching them ride the Surron through the streets, up and down the dirt roads, and it always makes me want one.

To be honest, the Surron is a dream, but with a price tag of $4,000 to $5,000, it's not in the cards right now. I’m not made of money, so the price of the Surron was a deterrent no matter how tempting it was. So I started to seriously look for an electric off-roader that I could use to commute to the city and occasionally go to the countryside on weekends. In the end, I chose the HappyRun G300 Pro.

Unboxing: It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but it feels well built.

I took a half-day vacation on the day the bike arrived. The box is pretty big, so I took my time unboxing it myself, and the process was easier than expected. It has a rugged, no-nonsense design, there aren't too many fancy details, but it feels solid. The front and rear shocks give the first impression that the bike is much stronger than the average e-bike.

First time on it: it won't scare you, but it will definitely make you smile

The first time I hit the road was on the main road in our town. It's not my first time riding an electric one, but the torque still surprised me a bit. I tried it out from my front door, across a couple of main streets in town, and into the busier parts of downtown. The dirt bike doesn't accelerate like a bomb out of nowhere, but it's pretty linear. I hit around 48 mph — impressive for someone weighing between 5'7" and 190 pounds like me. It doesn't fly fast and scary, and it doesn't drag. You twist and the bike goes. So much more enjoyable than my old 250W city booster.

I ride back and forth between the city and the suburbs, and it’s never dropped a chain

I live on the edge of a small town, work downtown, commute a dozen miles round trip every day, and go out on the weekends to skate around or run over to my friends' in the suburbs for a get-together. Driving used to be a waste of gas. But the G300 Pro has redefined the term “low-profile efficiency” for me. It's fast enough to accelerate smoothly without having to twist the throttle too hard; it's stable at city intersections, corners, and braking, and the suspension absorbs all those small, annoying bumps even when the road is broken. Especially on potholes or undulating backstreets in small towns, the bike is very stable. It's not like some of the more affordable EVs I've tried before, where you can't even get over a speed bump without shaking your mood.

Range: 60 miles isn't a huge stretch, but it's “reassuring”

The G300 Pro is a single battery with a 30Ah capacity and a nominal range of up to 60 miles. I actually use it in a mix of city and town, and I'm able to run 25-30 miles a day, and I can continue to ride the next day without having to recharge it every day. I'm most pleased with the fact that the charge drops off pretty evenly, not like a slow drop in the front and a wild drop in the back. You don't have the anxiety of “suddenly running out of juice”, which is important for daily trips.

There are also other small details: the light has four modes, also feel safe at night

The bike's light clusters honestly I originally did not pay too much attention, but that night I just went to the edge of the town to pick up a package, and then came back to darkness, and realized that the four-light mode is a little bit of a thing. It’s not one of those weak, single-beam lights, but a level that can actually penetrate a bit of fog.

Ride an electric bike people know, the biggest danger when riding at night isn’t what you can’t see — it’s whether others can see you.. This light, at least, makes me feel less nervous about riding on the streets of a small town at night.

Conclusion

I love the wild and mechanical aesthetic of the Surron, but the G300 Pro gives me the perfect balance between practicality and fun. It allows me to enjoy that freedom of wind in my face, cornering and descending without taking out a loan or going overdrawn.

If you're like me, and you've got ramps, shadows, and corners on your mind, but you've got to get by, then I'd really suggest you take a look at this bike. I wouldn’t even call it an alternative — it’s just a more realistic option.
