How to Customize Your Fast Electric Bike for a Spooky Halloween Ride

Halloween is one of the best times of the year to embrace creativity and let out your inner ghost for one night. Costumes are not just for people though, they’re perfect for vehicles too!

If you have an electric motorbike and want to celebrate Halloween, consider adding some spooky decorations. No matter if you’re going trick-or-treating or simply cruising around town, there’s plenty you can do to stay in theme. In this post, we’ll share our favorite creative Halloween ‘costumes’ for fast electric bikes. 

A simple and affordable way to customize your fast electric bike for Halloween is by adding lights, such as red, green, or purple LEDs. These classic Halloween colors will make your ebike very visible and in tune with the spooky celebrations.

You can add LEDs along the frame and handlebars to stand out from the rest. Look for battery-powered lights or clip-on lights you can add to your bike (with an ebike-safe adhesive) and easily remove when the season is over.

Glow-in-the-dark tape is another excellent option, which you can wrap around your wheels, pedals, and handlebars. It will charge during the day and create the perfect ghost-like effect in the night.

By far one of our favorites is under-glow lights, which create the illusion that your bike is hovering above the ground. These are widely used in cars and are safe for adding to your ebike as well.

Spooky decorations are a Halloween classic, and adding them to your electric motorbike is an easy and great way to follow the season’s theme. You can add fake cobweb material from a Halloween store or craft shop and drape it over your bike’s frame, handles, or seat. They are lightweight and won’t affect your ride, so you can add as much as you want.

If you like to take things to the next level, add mini plastic skeletons to your back seat to create the illusion of a creepy passenger coming along for the ride. Small skeletons are easy to secure down, and you can also just add skeleton hands around your frame.

Another option we like is adding plastic spiders and creepy insects into the cobwebs, which you can secure with a hot glue gun or zip ties. 

If you want to go all out this Halloween, consider adding a mini fog machine to your ebike. It might seem extreme, but there are many portable fog machines available that can be stored in a bag on your bike.

Be careful when placing the fog machine thus you don’t want to decrease your own visibility while riding or cause any distractions for other riders. Position it near the back or under your seat in a low output. Before going for a ride, do a mini test to ensure everything works perfectly, and that you don’t have low visibility or loose stability while riding.

If you can’t get a fog machine, you can use dry ice to recreate the effect. Simply place a small amount of dry ice in a cooler or small container with a slight opening for the “fog” to come out. Make sure to handle dry ice with care because it is extremely cold and should not be touched with bare skin!

With a simple waterproof Bluetooth speaker in your handlebar or under your seat, you can play creepy sound effects like ghostly wails, rattling chains, and sinister laughs as you ride.

If you don’t want to scare people too much, consider a Halloween playlist with classic songs like “Thriller” by Michael Jackson” or “Ghostbusters”.

Let’s talk about some great Halloween costumes you can recreate with your electric motorbike that are creative and very easy to do:

- The ghost bike: Drap a thin white sheet over your bike to create a ghostly appearance. Use safety pins or double-sided tape to secure the fabric, leaving space for safely accessing your bike’s controls. You can cut two “eyes” in the fabric and attach glow sticks or LED lights behind them.

- Witch’s broom: This one’s a classic, and you simply need to attach broom bristles to the back of your bike to make it look like you’re flying a broomstick. Add a witch hat or a cauldron on the rear rack for more fun.

- The zombie bike: Decorate your fast electric bike with pieces of torn clothing, shredded fabric, and plastic “zombie” limbs. 

With all these cool decorations it’s easy to forget about safety, but this is critical for Halloween night rides (and night rides in general). Make sure your ebike’s lights are visible, and keep essential elements like your brakes, handles, mirrors, and indicators free from any decorations that might prevent you from seeing or reaching them.

Apart from adding spooky elements, consider placing reflective tape on your helmet and outfit to make yourself even more visible while riding at night. You can also use an ebike taillight to add an extra layer of safety.

We recommend you plan your route before going out on Halloween night. Consider routes through residential areas and riding in groups to enjoy a nice time. Many communities host Halloween-themed bike rides so check your area to see if there’s a group ride you can join. This makes riding safer, especially when you’re in a low-visibility environment.
